UDI databases easily accessible with firstbase

Swiss medtech companies can now use our firstbase GDSN data pool to publish their product master data directly in one solution to both commercial trading partners such as hospitals and regulatory databases worldwide. You enter your data once and publish it to EUDAMED, for example – the connector takes care of the rest. This eliminates the tedious manual task of entering data multiple times in different portals.

From 2026, reporting up to 100 attributes per product to EUDAMED will be mandatory. At the same time, Switzerland has introduced swissdamed, a national database that requires double registration. In the USA, GUDID has already been established for years. For manufacturers and other stakeholders in relevant roles, this means increased effort, different formats and a higher risk of errors. Many still work with parallel systems, manual uploads or additional Excel lists – processes that cost time, compromise data quality and jeopardise compliance.

The UDI Connector – an add-on in firstbase powered by p36 – makes it possible to comply with regulatory product registrations with minimal effort. Data is entered using one of the common methods via editor, Excel import or M2M interfaces. Validation rules ensure that the information is complete and consistent before it is forwarded to the authorities. Through their publication in the GDSN, the UDI data records are automatically transmitted to the relevant UDI databases. Response messages report back for each data record whether the registration was successful.

This gives you a solution that integrates seamlessly into your existing processes and consistently implements the ‘once only’ principle. You avoid duplicate data entry, reduce sources of error and free up time for your core tasks. At the same time, your trading partners and authorities benefit from consistent and verified information.

Whether manufacturers or other stakeholders in relevant roles – those affected by UDI registration – can all implement their regulatory data management more efficiently with the UDI Connector in firstbase. CH authorised representatives, distributors and retailers also benefit from reduced data maintenance work. Both authorities and hospitals gain access to verified, consistent product information. This creates an ecosystem that benefits all parties involved.

We are continuously developing our UDI Connector in close cooperation with manufacturers, European GS1 organisations and our solution providers Trade Connectors FMBA and P36 GmbH. The result is a documented, internationally coordinated solution based on proven GS1 standards. It is globally compatible and locally anchored: with GS1 Switzerland, you have a local contact who can assist you with any questions or uncertainties. Thanks to its modular architecture, additional countries and registers can be integrated step by step – so you are also prepared for future requirements.

We are currently working intensively on the solution in an MVP phase until the end of the year. A proof of concept was successfully completed in the summer. The first UDI connections for EUDAMED and GUDID will be available from the beginning of 2026. As soon as it is available, the connection to swissdamed will also be implemented. Further connectors – for Australia and China, for example – will follow. This will not only ensure short-term compliance, but also long-term future security.
