 Success Stories

Success Story Insel Group

The Swiss healthcare industry has set itself the goal of using firstbase healthcare to sustainably raise the quality of the product information provided to a high level via a central platform. Electronic processes enable quality-assured data management.

For us, it was and is only logical to actively support good initiatives for the digitalisation of the exchange of material master data as part of our SCM 4.0 programme of the Insel Group.

Adrian Pfister, Head of Supply Chain Planning,
Insel Gruppe

In order to achieve sustainable improvements in the exchange of data in the healthcare sector, GS1 Switzerland had initiated a steering committee with representatives of market-important companies and organisations in the healthcare sector in 2022. On board are the H+ association as the national representative of the interests of hospitals, the Refdata foundation, the reference database for the Swiss healthcare system, and Swiss Medtech, the Swiss medical technology industry association. The experts on the steering committee can feed the needs of the market into the firstbase healthcare data exchange platform at an early stage.

A common data exchange platform with our suppliers of medical consumables has a positive impact on the speed of our procurement and logistics processes. From the billing of services to the timely availability of material information, we benefit from the standardised processes. For us, GS1 Switzerland is the perfect player to launch a good solution for the smooth exchange of product data with firstbase healthcare.

Insel Group

With firstbase healthcare, the Insel Group can not only look forward to the smooth exchange of product data, but can also rely on its quality assurance, validation and verification. This is because the manufacturers of medical devices also fulfil the requirements of EUDAMED, a database operated by the European Commission and the EU member states for the central administration of medical devices, via the validation engine of firstbase healthcare.

GS1 Switzerland is also in contact with Swissmedic, the authorisation and control authority for therapeutic products in Switzerland, in order to connect their swissdamed database in a timely manner. Internationally, many governmental regulatory bodies and healthcare initiatives are already connected to the Swiss data exchange platform.

Ultimately, we only receive data via firstbase healthcare that is validated and meets our standards.

GS1 Switzerland members have access to electronic data exchange of product master data, images and media assets within Switzerland - and worldwide - via the value added service firstbase healthcare.

firstbase healthcare offers companies in the Swiss healthcare industry a single source of truth to collect, maintain and provide and exchange product data according to the applicable validation rules. Data senders enter their product master data in the user-friendly user interface of firstbase healthcare. The connection works automatically via interfaces or also workflow-based from in-house systems or via GDSN. Product master data created in the platform is linked to the integrated master data pool of GS1 Switzerland and, if desired, to other GDSN data pools.

Via the EUDAMED and GUDID connectors, the connected companies can easily and conveniently register their firstbase healthcare product master data in the EUDAMED database.
